Principal's Message Term 3 Week 10 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have reached the end of Term 3, a hectic term with its challenges due to difficulties securing staff. Like all schools, the staff at MTS work incredibly hard to ensure the children received a quality education despite the current teacher shortage.

Congratulations to our Year 4 children who received their First Eucharist last weekend from Fr Troy. It was a very special occasion, and many thanks to Mrs Anne Leet and the teachers for their preparation.

I trust you have an enjoyable break as everyone returns refreshed for Term 4 on Tuesday, 14 October.

School Counsellor Appointed

A new school counsellor will be joining Mother Teresa in Week 1 of Term 4. Her name is Amanda Brideoake. Amanda is a highly experienced psychologist with a strong background in school counselling. Amanda’s first day will be Tuesday, 14th October. (Monday will be dedicated to a full day of orientation and student handover.) She will be working every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

A Rostrum Highlight

A huge congratulations to Siena Di Pietro, who represented MTS on Monday evening at the ACT Rostrum grand finals at the Performing Arts Centre, Canberra College. Siena spoke with confidence and delivered a wonderful speech on the topic of 'Making Waves', a brand-new topic Siena had two weeks to work on and memorise. For her amazing efforts, Siena won the Randall Falkiner Award. This is awarded to rostrum speakers with the best researched topic. Congratulations Siena!

Lots of Talent

Linuki Mendis, who is in Year 3 Sapphire, is performing in a Sri Lankan traditional dance show at the Canberra Theatre on 25 October 2025. This event is very special as it is staged once every three years and serves as a fantastic celebration of culture and performance. Wishing her all the very best for the performance.

Enjoy the break and travel safely if you are going away.

Something to Think
Have you heard the saying, ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you’? What do you think this means?
The Story
Today’s gospel story can be difficult to understand. It is a story about how things sometimes get reversed in God’s kingdom – the rich become poor and the poor become rich. The rich man is not welcomed into the kingdom, not because he was rich, but because he showed no kindness, no welcome and no compassion to the poor man.

Last weekend 41 students from Mother Teresa School celebrated their First Holy Communion. The mass was a very prayerful and joyous celebrations. The church was decorated beautifully to focus the congregation’s attention on the meaning of the Eucharist. All the first communicants were very reverent and proud as they celebrated this special day in their journey of faith.

Many thanks to all who made this occasion so special:
- Father Troy who was so welcoming of the children and their families and whose homily so aptly captured the significance of Eucharist in our lives today.

- The teachers, Justine Watt, Kathleen Macguire, Catherine Beckett & Lachlan Hennessy who prepared the students so well for this sacrament.

- Mel Unwin our Sacramental Preparation Officer who ensured all aspects of the preparation and celebration of First Eucharist was beautifully prepared.

- All the teachers who offered their support during the preparation time; and most importantly.

 - The parents who have supported their child in this important step in their faith journey.

Stay safe!

We look forward to seeing you refreshed and relaxed next term.
Peace and Best Wishes.

The MTS Yearbook request for photos

The Mother Teresa School Yearbook has been confirmed for 2025, but this year, we are going to need your help to get it across the line.

Families that have been with us for a few years would know that each year, with the help of our school committee and dedicated parents and our amazing teachers, we have produced a 200 page, professionally printed yearbook featuring all classes and highlighting the momentous occasions and experiences throughout the year.

The Yearbook has always been wonderfully received in the school community and are great keepsakes for the children to reflect on their journey here. To help in that undertaking we are hoping for your assistance

We would specifically like to request any photos from the events that have occurred in term 1 while they are fresh on your memories

-swimming carnival

-Reconciliation

-Harmony day

- Excursions

If families have any photos or if you’re attending school events (sporting, social etc) and you take any photos we’d love for you to snap and send a few back to us to use in the yearbook (appropriate permissions will be sought).

If you can help us with the above, please reach out and contact the Yearbook team via the yearbook email MTSYearbook00@gmail.com

Kind regards

Lindsay Hackett
