Principal's Message Term 3 Week 7 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Staffing News
Today we farewelled Miss Carly Salmon, who is taking leave until the end of the year. Carly is taking on a position to support disability sports in the area of athletics. We will miss Carly, but this is an area she is passionate about; supporting and helping raise community awareness.
We have had many teachers away this week, which has stretched our resources, requiring several classes to be split. Staffing continues to be a challenge across Canberra.
Next week, we welcome back Mrs Danielle Cooper. Danielle will be supported by Mrs Amanda Gainey as she works up to returning to full duties once her shoulder has strengthened.
Mrs Anne Leet has returned to her role of REC, working Mondays and Fridays to support the religious life of the school and the sacrament First Eucharist program.

Religious Education News - Mrs Leet
What is the most important thing in your life? Who are the most important people to you?
Jesus tells his disciples that they must prefer God to their family and all their possessions. He makes it clear to the disciples that following Jesus isn’t always an easy choice. Since God is so faithful, God asks us to be faithful in return.

We came together to celebrate the inspiring life of St Teresa of Calcutta, who opened her heart to Christ’s love and shared it generously with those most in need.
The students helped make the Mass truly special through heartfelt singing, thoughtful readings, and their involvement in the processions - thank you for your wonderful contributions. In his homily, Fr Troy reminded us that true holiness is found in serving others, especially those the world often overlooks. May we continue to follow St Teresa’s example by seeing Jesus in everyone and serving with compassion and humility. Throughout the week, students took part in a variety of fun and engaging activities that highlighted the lives of two remarkable saints who will be canonized this Sunday. A huge thank you to Mr Hart, Steve, Nick, Mrs Waters, Mrs Matchett, and our amazing barbecue team, who cooked and served over 1,000 sausages! The students thoroughly enjoyed the sausage sizzles and spending time with their buddies.
Please note a few reminders below:
- Jesus Day for Mother Teresa Students is Friday 19 September Please check Compass.
- Remember to bring along Food donations for the Vinnies Pantry at the weekend masses. These donations help feed to most vulnerable and needy in our local area. Suggestions of what to bring can be found in the back of your handbook.

The Sports Spectacle
This Thursday, Mr. Moore, Mrs. Smith, and I embarked on an epic adventure with 54 MTS athletes to the AIS for the North Gungahlin Track and Field Carnival. Picture this: quick runners zipping by and athletes soaring through the air like superheroes! A huge shoutout to Coby Gleeson, Will Minns, Dash Meagher, Lachlan Rodda, Zoe Le Sambolec & Jameson Evans for making it to the ACT Track and Field Carnival! Ribbons will be handed out at Monday morning assembly.
And speaking of superheroes, three of our students have scored a spot on various ACT U12 School Sport teams! They’ll be competing in Ballarat this October, where they'll not only flex their athletic muscles but also get to explore other sports like Golf, Swimming, Soccer, Touch Football, Cricket, Netball, and Tennis. It’s like the Olympics, but with more snacks! The chosen ones are:
- Grace Power - Combined Touch Football
- Lena Sgouros - Soccer (Football), selected as shadow
- Leah McIntosh - Netball, also selected as shadow
Upcoming Events
- ACT Track and Field (16 September)
- Wally Masur Tennis Cup (17 September)

- If you are a Childcare Centre, please remember that presentations are only available for ages three and up (preschool aged). As stated above, we have found that the limited attention span of children under the age of three impacts the important safety messages children receive through the Constable Kenny class presentation.
- Constable Kenny can attend your school for single sessions or for a full day booking, with individual sessions running from 30 to 45 minutes. We can only do six presentations within one day.
- Bookings can only be made within your particular school zone. You must enter a school zone for your bookings.
- Please note: The only class presentation whereby we may require a smartboard is the ‘Stay OK Online’ presentation as we may show the children a video at the end. If a whiteboard is available for ‘Stay OK everyday’ and ‘Stay OK for life’ sessions, this would also assist in our delivery.
The MTS Yearbook request for photos
The Mother Teresa School Yearbook has been confirmed for 2025, but this year, we are going to need your help to get it across the line.
Families that have been with us for a few years would know that each year, with the help of our school committee and dedicated parents and our amazing teachers, we have produced a 200 page, professionally printed yearbook featuring all classes and highlighting the momentous occasions and experiences throughout the year.
The Yearbook has always been wonderfully received in the school community and are great keepsakes for the children to reflect on their journey here. To help in that undertaking we are hoping for your assistance
We would specifically like to request any photos from the events that have occurred in term 1 while they are fresh on your memories
-swimming carnival
-Reconciliation
-Harmony day
- Excursions
If families have any photos or if you’re attending school events (sporting, social etc) and you take any photos we’d love for you to snap and send a few back to us to use in the yearbook (appropriate permissions will be sought).
If you can help us with the above, please reach out and contact the Yearbook team via the yearbook email MTSYearbook00@gmail.com
Kind regards
Lindsay Hackett
This term, our school will be teaching Protective Behaviours to students using current resources from the Daniel Morcombe Curriculum and Education 2 Empower Publishing. We understand the content of Protective Behaviours can be confronting for some students, and we are therefore keen to ensure there is an opportunity for families to engage with the content before lessons are taught. To achieve this, an overview of the program is attached and weekly updates will be provided.
