Principal's Message Term 1 Week 6 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week our Year 3 and Year 5 students commenced their NAPLAN Testing for 2025. This has involved all things Literacy, including writing, reading and conventions of language. The staff and students have done an outstanding job in completing these assessments, while the remainder of the classes have kept traffic past their rooms to a minimum. The students will complete the final Numeracy assessment next Tuesday. A big thanks to Mrs Catherine Blackwell, who has coordinated NAPLAN at MTS.
Reconciliation
Best wishes to many of our Year 3 students who will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation during the week ahead. We will continue to pray for them and their families.
Year 6 Camp
The excitement is building for our senior students and teachers as they prepare for their annual camp for 2025. This will be a great opportunity to galvanise as group of leaders at Mother Teresa School. We hope they have the best time! Teachers attending include Kelly Boyton, Jason Smith, Maria Radic, Carly Reeves, Gemma Frances and Kathleen McGuire.
Swimming Carnival
Next Monday students from Year 3 to 6 (and only registered Year 2 competitive swimmers) will attend our annual Swimming Carnival at Dickson Pool. A reminder that competitive swimmers need to be dropped by parents or carers to the pool by 8:30am sharp. All students need to bring recess, lunch and considering the unpredictability of the weather a jumper or coat is also recommended. More detailed information has been sent via COMPASS.
Culture, Community, Connection Week
To celebrate Harmony Week, we will be celebrating our different cultures in various ways throughout Week 7. We look forward to seeing all of the traditional clothing on Friday!
School Photos
Scooters
Please avoid using bikes and electric bikes/scooters on the footpaths outside and within the school and ELC grounds.
These pathways are for children and pedestrians; bikes and scooters should be dismounted while on footpaths.
Class Contacts
Thank you to everyone who nominated to be a Class Contact Rep for 2025. We had a lovely gathering of about 15 reps on Thursday night who are keen to build connections with families within the class groups, as a starting point. Look out for a Compass message from your contact in the next few weeks. It was a very social evening.
Have a lovely weekend

Assistant Principal
MTS Harmony Week Plans - Save the Dates
As highlighted in the newsletter at MTS we are going to celebrate Harmony Week with our own Culture, Community & Connection celebration in Week 7 (March 17 to 21).
Along with an opportunity for students to dress in their cultural attire on Friday, rock decorating and a Harmony Day Prayer Focus Assembly, families are also invited to share their culture to their child's class. In order to do this please contact your child's teacher via email to find a mutually convenient time.
We look forward to celebrating the many cultures that make being at MTS such a rich and vibrant learning community.

WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS
The Whole school focus theme for this JUBILEE 2025 year is ‘PILGRIMS OF HOPE’
This term at Mother Teresa School we will use the theme that:
The Journey of Faith: Dream, Slow Down, and Reflect
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11
We will show the value of Unity towards those we meet in our class and on the playground by following ‘The Mother Teresa School Way’:
- having harmony in the group
- doing something together at the same time
- working together with a shared goal
- respecting everyone
- making big tasks seem easy.
- creating a sense of belonging and increasing well-being for all.
- having fun and makes us feel like a family.
St. Patrick’s Day observes of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking and a whole lot of green.
According to legend, Saint Patrick used the three-leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to Irish pagans
RECONCILIATION
Please pray for our students who are currently preparing for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation
Thank you to all those families who came along to the Reconciliation Heart Mass last weekend. It was wonderful to see so many at the various masses. If you were unable to make it, please bring your heart along this weekend so it can be displayed in the foyer.
A reminder that everyone should have enrolled by now and made their payment. This will be an important week with our students making their Reconciliation at one of the ceremonies on Tuesday or Thursday.
Please contact anne.leet@cg.catholic.edu.au or mel.unwin@cg.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.
PROJECT COMPASSION
At Mother Teresa School, we are trying to reach out to others and bring hope to those who are less fortunate than ourselves during this time of Lent by raising money for Project Compassion. We invite all families to contribute by sending in the money each Friday. Each class has a Project Compassion box available for the children’s donations. Remember that it is not how much we give, but the compassion that accompanies our giving.
Thank you for your generous contributions. This week we raised $527.05
We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion.
This week our money goes to support Toefuata'iga story, Samoa
Toefuata'iga, a 13-year-old student in Samoa, faced severe challenges and disruptions to her learning due to water scarcity. After Caritas Australia’s partner Caritas Samoa installed a 10,000 litre water tank at her school, Toefuata'iga and her classmates saw improved health and more consistent class attendance
Something to Think About
Lent is all about listening to Jesus. Do you have a favourite quiet place where you can sit and listen to Jesus speaking in your heart?
The Story
Jesus took three of his disciples up on a mountain to pray. While Jesus was praying, his face changed, and his clothes became shining white. Moses and Elijah, two prophets who had lived hundreds of years ago, appeared in heavenly glory with Jesus. A shadow from a cloud passed over them and God’s voice spoke, telling the disciples: “This is my chosen Son. Listen to what he says.”

MTS Swimming Carnival
I want to express my gratitude for the support from parents and volunteers in preparing for the MTS Swimming Carnival, which is happening this Monday.
Please note that all competitive swimmers need to be at the Dickson Aquatic Centre by 8:30 AM for roll call, so we can start the races promptly. It's important to remind students to label all their belongings and to pack a jumper, as it is expected to be a bit chilly.
The Carnival will proceed unless the weather turns unfavorable, so please keep an eye on Compass for any announcements.
MTS Ninjas Oztag Reposting
Last week we celebrated the success of the MTS Ninjas in their Oztag Grand Final. Some students were not included in the post due to permissions not syncing to Compass. The original photo is now included. Congratulations again to our young superstars.
