Principal's Message Term 4 Week 8 - 2023
Dear Parents
As a Catholic learning community,
all at Mother Teresa School are called
to care, to dream, to innovate, to inspire!
After much thought and consideration our beautiful and talented Mrs Susan Curbishely, our music teacher, has decided it is time to share her skills and interest in music play therapy and preschool music training. Susan is keen to work with her local neighbourhood group in establishing music playgroups as a part of teaching English. In the short time I have been at MTS, Susan has provided many amazing experiences and opportunities for the children to be involved in. We wish her all the very best in her next musical adventure.
A reminder that the last day of preschool for all students is Thursday the 14 December. On Friday our preschool staff will participate in Professional Development.
If you require care during the holidays, please contact Kids Biz.

WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS
The Whole school focus theme for this year is ‘Walking Together’.
This Term as WE FOLLOW JESUS’ WAY:
- we believe in and love Jesus.
- Live with honesty and integrity.
- Be patient with others and make peace.
- Give of our unique talents, time, and money and
- Be consistently kind.
Advent is a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ's first coming is remembered. We know that the first coming of Jesus at Bethlehem will not happen again, so during Advent, we prepare and long for a new coming of Jesus into our lives. We take this time every year to practice how to receive Jesus every day of our lives! We remember the call of Jesus to his followers to make our world a peaceful and loving place, and so, during Advent, we make special efforts to be signs that God is with us. This is what the word 'Emmanuel' means - God is with us.
The beautiful custom of the Advent wreath focuses on the theme of light coming into darkness. The first week, a candle is lit in anticipation of the coming of Christ. As each week passes, another candle is lit, until four candles are burning brightly just before Christmas.

FIRSY SUNDAY IN ADVENT
Year B | Sunday 3 December | purple
"Stay awake! You never know when the Lord will come."
Something to Think About
The gospel warns us to be on our guard and to be ready for when Jesus comes again. Nobody knows exactly when that will be, so we need to try and be ready all the time.
Jesus asks us to keep our eyes open to see what is happening around us so that we can do good in the world.
What do you think Jesus wants us to see in the world as we look around us?
The Story
When Advent comes, we know that Christmas and the holidays are not very far away! It is an exciting time as we eagerly await the joy of Christmas. Christmas is a time for gift-giving.
What can you do to prepare for this wonderful celebration?
Imagine for a moment that you are Jesus. What sorts of gifts would you (as Jesus) want to give to people?

Over the school holidays Romeo had an opportunity of a lifetime to attend the Real Madrid Academy, Romeo trained every day from 7:30am to 2:30pm. From intense physical training sessions, to psychology sessions, to nutrition sessions.
Returning back to Canberra he went straight into the Asia Pacific Cup 2024 with nearly 400 players from Singapore, Japan and all of Australia attending.
After a gruelling 4 days, Romeo was selected by Coerver Vice President Jason Lancsar and Coerver Academy coaches to represent the ACT in the 1 on 1 Finals, which he proudly won. He was also selected to represent the ACT in the group finals, which they won too.
Having one day break in between Romeo then had the pleasure of attending the Western Sydney Wanderers Advanced Academy, braving the extreme heat on the synthetic pitch and giving it his absolute best.
Romeo has been invited to join the Elite Squad U10’s at the Football Star Academy at the AIS, which starts next week.
Romeo’s dream is to be like Ronaldo!

Dear Parents,
Thank you for providing your student with a Chromebook for their learning.
After experiencing some teething problems during 2023 with Chromebook setups, we have determined that the following is the most reliable setup for students to access their account at school.
In order for the Chromebook to be used at school, please set up the following:
1. Personal Account
We recommend parents sign into the Chromebook using a personal account first. It can be their own account, or the account they create for the student.
The first account will automatically be the owner account of that device. By doing this, parents can set up parental controls and students won’t have admin. The family will still have access to the iPad in the case the student leaves Catholic education.
Instructions:https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1047362?hl=en
2. Child personal account
If the personal account set up in Step 1 belongs to an adult, please set up a child personal account. The student will need this in order to add their school account. If the child already has a personal account on the Chromebook, you can skip this step.
Instructions:https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1059242?hl=en
3. Child school account inside the child’s personal account
Please add the school account inside the child’s personal account.
- Student signs in to their personal account
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings cog.
- In the "Accounts" section, at the top, select your Google Account.
- Select Add Student Account
- Follow the on-screen steps.
- Parents will need to enter their email password to allow this.
The student needs to use their school account to access Google Classroom, Google Drive, and other apps in the Google Suite. The student account is managed by Catholic Education.
Your child has a record of their school account. It is in the form of their school email address
Eg. mrobit02@cgstudents.catholic.edu.au and a password they nominated with their teacher. This password has more complex requirements as soon as students begin Year 4. Teachers will guide students through choosing a suitable password.
Students will then be able to switch between their home and school accounts in Chrome by clicking on their letter icon in the top right corner.
Family Link controls
If parents would like to apply extra supervision to the Chromebook, they can set up Family Link.
However, at this stage Catholic Education ICT and Mother Teresa Staff are not in the position of supporting parents with Family Link on BYO devices.
