Principal's Message Term 2 Week 9 - 2022
- Lee Revell, our Defence School Mentor, who is resigning from the position to take up a full-time position with a local agency. Lee has supported the children of our Defence families over the last two years. This is a vital role within our school as we support over 100 children and their families as they transition between various posting around Australia and internationally.
- Emmie Hoffsink, our student administration office, has resigned from her position to have time with family and settle into a new home over the border. I thank Emmie for the care she has shown the children, who have required first aid on a Monday or Tuesday.
- Kate Higgins will be finishing up at the end of the term to access maternity leave and welcome the arrival of baby number two.
- Arrangements are currently in place to fill the positions with both Lee and Emmie's jobs advertised on the CE website.
Our recruitment process continues as we look for teachers to fill current vacancies. I am in discussions with a prospective candidate for 3 Sapphire who is moving from interstate. Our candidate will need to gain registration with the ACT Quality Teaching Instititue before they can commence. I will advise as soon as I know what is happening.
With Kate finishing on Friday, we welcome back Kari Turnbull from maternity leave. Kari will be sharing 2 Lime with Sophia Caputo, our new graduate, who has been working with the Year 2 team this semester. Kari will be in class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with Sophia will be teaching on Wednesdays and Fridays.
There have been a few events run recently where some children have participated but not attended school before the event, after the event, or both. In these circumstances, parents will need to submit an absence for the period that they were not at school. This can be done on the Compass Parent Portal through the "shortcuts" button on the home screen. Please remember to check the date and change the times to reflect the actual time away from school (noting that the school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3:00pm). This will then cover any unexplained time away from school.
Example:
On Friday 10th June, Freddy attended the Brumbies Championships which started at 11:30am but did not attend school prior. You will need to complete an absence for the period 8:45am to 11:30am.
Events - Off campus Events Notices & Updates (Compass)
As many of you would be aware, we are now utilising the "events" function in Compass which allows us to specify which students are attending particular events off site. Please note, once you have completed any necessary permissions/registrations etc with regards to events, that all updates and information regarding the event will be sent via Compass email. No information will be sent to the full school community with other daily Compass alerts. You will need to check your emails (including junk mail) if you are looking for the latest information on an upcoming event or alternatively go into the Event tab on your parent portal and all information will be there.
School Fees
A reminder that school fees are now overdue. Please settle your semester one account as soon as possible. If you are experiencing difficulties please contact me on my email carmel.maguire@cg.catholic.edu.au.
Tissues & Wipes need re-stocking
We are running low on tissues and antibacterial wipes in our classrooms. If all students could please supply one packet of each to their classroom teacher it would be greatly appreciated.
COVID Reminders
Families still need to advise the school should a child be at home with COVID via our specific email address, covid.motherteresa@cg.catholic.edu.au then followed up with a Compass absentee notification through the Compass Parent Portal.
RAT kits are still available from the office should you require kits for regular testing, particularly if your child is a close contact.
God Bless

“I will follow you wherever you go."
Preparing to Hear God’s Word
What does it really mean to follow Jesus?
We can pray, do good deeds, think of other people first and be the best person we can be.
How can you follow Jesus better this week?
The Story
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells the people that they must put Jesus first, above everything else. Sometimes other things may seem very important, but Jesus says that nothing is more important than following him.
The Scriptures
A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke 9:57-62
Along the way to Jerusalem someone said to Jesus, "I'll go anywhere with you!"
Jesus said, "Foxes have dens, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man doesn't have a place to call his own."
Jesus told someone else to come with him. But the man said, "Lord, let me wait until I bury my father." Jesus answered, "Let the dead take care of the dead, while you go and tell about God's kingdom."
Then someone said to Jesus, "I want to go with you, Lord, but first let me go back and take care of things at home."
Jesus answered, "Anyone who starts plowing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing in God's kingdom!"
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Something to Think About
Following Jesus isn’t always easy. When you have a problem, who do you ask for help? Jesus helps us through other people. Think of all the people who love you and help you grow. Spend some quiet time in prayer, thanking God for these wonderful people.
Peace and Best Wishes.

80s Zumba Party was a Hit!
Last Friday night the school hall was lit up by disco lights, glow sticks and neon 80’s wear. So many side pony tails, leg warmers, blue eyeshadow were just the start. The night kicked off with a photo, before the workout, and then Mandy led us into a fabulous night of Zumba. From good ole 80’s tunes like Take on Me, Footloose, and Push It into some more latin moves all the participants got a good fun workout. The winner of the multi-city Entertainment Book was Neha who can now look forward to enjoying some great discounts over the school holidays, no matter which Australian state/territory she finds herself in.* Followed by a chance to chat about the best dance moves and consume some delicious food, cheese, crackers and of course the obligatory cheese and cocktail onion on a toothpick.
Many thanks to Mandy for leading the Zumba and to Evan & Adelle who took some great photos of the night.
Look out for information about our Term3 Trivia night coming soon. To keep up-to-date don’t forget to join our Facebook “MTS Community” page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/475369273986556
*If you didn’t win an Entertainment Book you can still purchase your own here: https://au.entdigital.net/orderbooks/9661w78
