Preparing to Hear God’s Word
What does it really mean to follow Jesus?
We can pray, do good deeds, think of other people first and be the best person we can be.
How can you follow Jesus better this week?
The Story
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells the people that they must put Jesus first, above everything else. Sometimes other things may seem very important, but Jesus says that nothing is more important than following him.
The Scriptures
A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke 9:57-62
Along the way to Jerusalem someone said to Jesus, "I'll go anywhere with you!"
Jesus said, "Foxes have dens, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man doesn't have a place to call his own."
Jesus told someone else to come with him. But the man said, "Lord, let me wait until I bury my father." Jesus answered, "Let the dead take care of the dead, while you go and tell about God's kingdom."
Then someone said to Jesus, "I want to go with you, Lord, but first let me go back and take care of things at home."
Jesus answered, "Anyone who starts plowing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing in God's kingdom!"
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Something to Think About
Following Jesus isn’t always easy. When you have a problem, who do you ask for help? Jesus helps us through other people. Think of all the people who love you and help you grow. Spend some quiet time in prayer, thanking God for these wonderful people.
Peace and Best Wishes.
