How wonderful to see the sun this week and the blossoms appearing as you drive around Canberra. While COVID numbers are declining across the community we have had several staff away this week, with 9 teachers away today. The teachers continue to work hard to keep programs going while supervising additional children as we also experience a shortage of relief teachers.
This week I continued to meet with lots of families as the Kinder 2023 siblings came in for their interview to meet the Principal. It has been wonderful to continue to connect with our families.
All going to plan, our new covered walkway near the courts, should be completed by the end of next week. I have been told that the primer used on the posts is as strong as the Sydney Harbour Bridge - A little bit of trivia! The shelter will be great for wet days and will provide additional shade in the summer when waiting for children at the end of the day.
As it is now Spring, children should be wearing their hats every day. It is also important that shoulder length hair be tied back. Please note that nail polish and makeup are not part of our uniform.
Next week I will be away attending the National Catholic Education Commission Conference in Melbourne, returning on Thursday. Please direct any concerns to Craig Hart in my absence.
We continue to pray for our Year 3 children who are preparing to receive their First Communion in the coming weeks. This is a special time for these children.
Mother Teresa School - Celebrations
On Monday, the staff and children will celebrate St Teresa's Feast Day. It will be a day of fun activities to raise money for Catholic Missions and Global Schools. The children will be treated to lunch. Everyone is asked to make a donation of $5.00 to purchase a Golden Ticket to take part in the activities. Payment is via Qkr (our preferred option) or the children can bring in $5.00 cash on Monday. I am very sad to be missing this fun day. Refer to the add published in the newsletter for more information.
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder that our next pupil free day is scheduled for Friday 9 September.
Naplan Results
Naplan results will be sent home to all families next week. We will put an alert on Compass to remind parents to check their child's bag on the day.
Future of Education Equity Fund - Helping with the cost of schooling and everyday needs
The ACT Government is committed to helping all children and young people participate in programs and activities that support their educational and wellbeing needs.
The Future of Education Equity Fund can provide financial support to eligible families, helping students access everyday essentials at school.
The Future of Education Equity Fund provides a one-off, annual payment to low-income families to help cover the costs of education expenses such as school uniforms, school excursions, sport equipment and activities and music lessons.
The Equity Fund has replaced the Secondary Bursary Scheme, expanding its support to families with students in years P–12. It supports low-income families with students enrolled in an ACT preschool (attached to a school) or school (as well as independent students), who meet the eligibility criteria.
