Principal's Report Week 4 Term 2 - 2019

Dear Parents,

Last Tuesday we had our AGM of the school’s Community Council. The Community Council works with the leadership of the school to examine issues such as budgets, school fees, governance issues, building and maintenance programs as well as running fundraising events and social functions for families.

We had a wonderful turnout for the meeting with lots of new members elected due to previous members having their terms expire or their children leaving MTS.  The community council also has a number of sub-committees and receives reports from school organisations such as the netball club and cheerleading.  Below are the members of the community council and members of several sub-committees.  Their details and photos will be uploaded soon to the school’s website.  If anyone wishes to contact a member of the community council, the email address is community.council@cg.catholic.edu.au.

A reminder the community council is running a trivia night on Saturday 1st June in the school hall. Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.  Last year’s event was a great night so organise a table of friends and come along.  To book a table email community.council@cg.catholic.edu.au.

NAPLAN

This year’s NAPLAN testing has proved to be challenging for both students and staff alike.  The difficulties experienced by us were also experienced by many schools across Australia.  Friday was the last day of official testing while next week we will have students who felt they were disadvantaged by issues beyond their and our control, re-sitting tests.  It will be interesting the see what the testing authorities say about the validity of the results.

Thank you to Miss Jeffries, Mrs Boyton and Mrs MacArthur for the countless hours they put into getting our school through the tests this year.  They were under considerable pressure especially when issues with connectivity and the inability to access the tasks on-line arose.

Maths Problem

Congratulations to Isabella Geary who was the winner of last week’s prize.  The solution was that both pizzas were a different size. This week’s problem is below.

Board Game Frenzy – Monopoly

On your first Monopoly turn, you have $1500.  You land on the income tax space, which means you have to pay $200 or 10% of your money.  Which would you choose and why?  What if you had $2,200; which would you choose and why?  What is the minimum amount of money you could have for which paying the $200 would be less than paying the 10%?

Mother Teresa Public Speaking School Finals

Congratulations to Quinn Duvall who is our school champion.  He will represent our school in the Rostrum public speaking competition.  Grace Barber and Mikayla Nutt will represent our school at the the Lions Club of Gungahlin Public Speaking competition.   Well done to all of our speakers who participated in the school finals.

Lastly, Monday is a public holiday and therefore all ACT Schools are closed.  I wish you an enjoyable long weekend.
God Bless
