Dear parents,

Today it was announced that Ms Carmel Maguire will be the principal of Mother Teresa School from the start of the 2022 school year.  Carmel is an experienced principal and is currently principal at St Monica’s Primary School, Evatt.

On behalf of the school community, I have passed on our congratulations to Carmel on her appointment and wish her the best of luck for 2022.  Please see link here for letter from Mr Ross Fox regarding the appointment.

School Return

We await the announcement from Andrew Barr regarding students returning to school following the term three holidays. He is expected to make this announcement during the first week of the holidays.

As a school principal, I am keen to have students back at school as soon as possible. Having students back at school would obviously improve both their educational and social outcomes; however, there are many unknowns and questions that need to be considered before students return.  I am sure Catholic Education, the ACT Education Directorate and ACT Health will be working together to ensure a safe return to school whenever it happens.

We will communicate with families during the holiday period once the impact of any announcement is known. There may be a delay as I need to await directions from Catholic Education who will first have to consider the implications for Catholic schools of any announcement Mr Barr makes. 

During the week, we sent home to families advice on how to apply for fee remission if their financial situation has been impacted by the current lockdown. It was sent out as a sZapp notice.  If you need further information, please contact Mrs Betts, our office manager via email donna.betts@cg.catholic.edu.au. 

This Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day and I hope all fathers and grandfathers associated with our school enjoy this special day with the key members of your family.  Below is a short video shared from Mrs Leet for all of our MTS dads.

Kangaroo Rats

Kangaroo rats are good jumpers, but they do not like being in water.

They can jump over any stretch of water on their way to the next mound. However, they will only jump left, right, up, or down.

They will not jump diagonally, and will not jump over a mound.

The diagram below shows the possible jumps from the mound M. Water is grey and mounds are white.

Well-being Wednesday
