Principal's Report Term 3 Week 4 - 2021

Dear parents,

At the end of swimming lessons last year, we surveyed parents regarding swimming lessons being held for students from Kindergarten to Year two. The survey asked parents if they wished to continue with the lessons for the 2021 school year.  The survey was the result of both parent and staff complaints about the quality of the lessons.  There were a number of concerns, however, the main concern was the lack of pool space with the main pool at the Gungahlin Aquatic Centre being closed for repairs. The survey indicated that, by a narrow margin, a majority of parents wanted the lessons to continue.

At the end of last year, I met with the coordinator of the swimming program to discuss our concerns. I was advised that the main pool repairs would be completed in time for our lessons and booked the pool for lessons in term four this year.

I have had confirmation from the coordinator of the swim school that the main pool will not be in operation in time for our lessons. As such, the decision has been made, and endorsed at Tuesday night’s Community Council Meeting, that swimming lessons will be cancelled for 2021.

As parents pay the cost of swimming lessons over the four terms some money has been paid to the school. If you have not paid your term three school fees yet, and your child is in Kindergarten to Year Two, we ask you do not pay the swimming levy going forward. Parents are advised that any money already paid will be credited against their school fees. If you do not wish this to happen and would like a refund, we ask you contact Mrs Betts in the front office.

In the near future, we will again survey parents to gauge their opinions on the future of swimming lessons at MTS.

Math’s Problem

Congratulations to Cooper Evans who was this week’s winner of a handball and a hot canteen meal.

This week’s problem is below.

Mr Hughes had to buy some batteries for the hand-held microphones we use for morning assemblies and when we go to car lines. When he went to the shops, he saw there were various packs of batteries with a range of prices. They were:

There was a pack that contained 24 batteries but had no price displayed. Using the price of the other batteries what do you think the price for 24 batteries would be?

God Bless
