Principal's Report Term 3 Week 2 - 2021

Dear parents,

What an amazing performance by the year five and six students involved in Wakakirri on Wednesday evening. Following a morning where costumes and make up was applied by an army of hairstylists and make up artists, the very excited students travelled to the Canberra Theatre for a rehearsal before the evening performance.

Due to COVID restrictions, schools from NSW who had been preparing to participate were unable to do so.  Knowing the amount of work put in by students and staff of these schools, I can empathise with how disappointed they must have been.  That left five schools performing on Wednesday evening, two of which were high schools.

Mother Teresa School was the last to perform and their performance was outstanding and that is recognising my bias. My view would have been supported by the large number of parents in attendance and the comments from the judge were effusive.

The performers received a number of awards on the night and we now wait to see if we will make the final. The pride of the performers and the staff that were involved was evident on the night and has created a wonderful buzz around the school.  I'm sure everyone who participated will remember it for a long time.

Many parents have contacted the school to pass on their thanks to all involved in preparing the students for their performance.  It has involved staff giving up many lunchtimes and our parent helpers giving up many hours to assist in a variety of ways.  It is wonderful to see the school community coming together for these events to ensure our students have opportunities to participate in activities that bring a real richness to their school lives.

All involved should be very proud of their efforts.

Math’s Problem

Congratulations to Ruby McNamara who was this week’s winner.  The winners now receive a new handball and a hot meal from the canteen which has replaced the vouchers for icy poles. This week’s problem is below.

You need to measure how far you can jump – try at least 3 attempts – and then place your result on the appropriate graph which shows the place getters from the Australian Championships.

All entries to Mr Hughes by Wednesday morning.
