Principal's Report Term 2 Week 4 - 2021
Dear parents,
This week a meeting to discuss traffic issues around the three educational institutions took place at MTS. The meeting was attended by representatives from both schools as well as representatives from ACT Transport Canberra and City Services. Also present was an engineer who has been engaged to conduct a study into the issues and make recommendations based on engineering, education and enforcement.
We have prepared a survey (link below) and I ask you take time to put your views forward. It is a long running issue and hopefully there may be some improvement to traffic flow as a result of the study.
This week our year three and year five students were involved in the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). If students were away and were unable to complete a test, they will be given an opportunity to do these tests next week.
Our COVID plan for the Community Council to host their Trivia Night has been approved for the 5th June. This is always an entertaining night and I encourage you to get a table together. To adhere to the plan, tables have been limited to eight people. More details regarding the event will follow.
In term two, our year one and two classes always present a musical performance to their parents. To reduce the number of parents in the hall we have decided to break the performances in to year levels. Assuming our COVID plans are approved, we have selected dates for the year one and year two performances. The year one performance will be on the 22nd June while the year two performance will be on the 24thJune. Both performances will commence at 2.20pm and finish around 2.50pm.
Enrolment 20222
A reminder that anyone wanting to enrol their child at MTS, either in the school or the ELC, are advised that the enrolment period closes on Friday 28th May. Offers will be sent out to families on the 25th June. Please ensure you submit your application during the enrolment period as any applications received after this date will be treated as a "late application".
Cold and Flu Season
As the weather changes there is usually an increase in people getting sick, a cold or the flu. I remind parents to please keep your child or children at home if they are feeling sick, have a cold or are generally unwell. This will help keep the spread of sicknesses to a minimum and protect other students and staff.
Math’s Problem
Congratulations to Emma Liew who was last week’s winner. This week’s problem is below.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Willy Wonka needs 6.2 metres of rainbow ribbon to make 10 everlasting gobstoppers. If each ribbon contains 60cm and costs $3, what is the total cost of the rainbow ribbon required for 20 everlasting gobstoppers? For 100 everlasting gobstoppers? For 250? Please show me your working.
