Principal's Report Week 5

Dear parents,

Procedures have been tightened to avoid a COVID outbreak occurring at Mother Teresa School.  All visitors to school now are required to fill in (each time they are on school grounds) a statement confirming they have not been in high risk areas, have no underlying symptoms related to COVID 19 etc.  These visitors include health professionals, tradesmen, staff from Catholic Education, musical tutors and parents that enter the school for approved purposes.  All hall users have supplied their COVID safe plans to the school.  Hand sanitiser and sterilisation of hard surfaces continues to happen daily.

Since the students have returned from remote learning, all parents have been asked not to enter the school buildings at any time unless their visit has been approved and they have come via the front office.  This is to protect both staff and students.  Lately we have had an increasing number of parents entering the building towards the end of the day once we open the school up.  I again plead with parents to please stay out of the school buildings.

This year the Federal Government cancelled the NAPLAN testing regime across Australia. Next week all students in years three and five at Mother Teresa School will sit old Numeracy and Literacy tests to gauge how our children are performing and to identify areas of weakness, both individually and across the school.

The tests will be marked by Catholic Education and this will allow us to see the growth of our year five students from year three.  It will also provide us with a baseline for our year three so that we can check their growth between 2020 and 2022, as with no national test this year it will not be provided in school summaries in 2022.

As this is a school based assessment program the reports produced by the ACARA will not be available for parents.

Maths problem

Congratulations to Selina Li who had the first correct response drawn out. It was pleasing to see some students that have not entered before put an entry in. This week’s problem follows the Dr Seuss theme.

The sleepwalking sheep slept and walked all night, from 5.00pm in the evening to 11.00am the next morning. (These sheep like to sleep!)

While sleeping, the sheep walked at a rate of exactly 4 kilometres per hour and they walked all the way from Near to Far.

What is the distance from Near to Far?

As the story mentions, you would much prefer to drive a car than walk.

You left Near sometime in the morning and arrived at Far at exactly the same time as the sheep.

If your car travelled at exactly 60kph, at what time did you leave Near?
