Our students were lucky to take part in a very special cultural experience as we welcomed Ryka Ali to our school. We began each session with a traditional smoking ceremony, held at the entrance of our hall. This powerful and meaningful ritual helped cleanse and prepare us for the learning ahead.

Ryka gave an energetic and engaging introduction that had students immediately interested and involved. With his warm approach, he invited everyone to join in as he shared dances and stories from the Torres Strait Islander culture.

Throughout the session, Ryka explained the meanings behind various symbols used by Torres Strait Islander people, helping students gain a deeper understanding of this rich cultural heritage.

There were lots of opportunities to dance, and our students enthusiastically jumped at the chance! They had a fantastic time moving, learning, and laughing, all while gaining respect for the traditions and history of First Nations peoples.

It was a joyful and educational experience—Ryka truly made it fun and memorable for everyone!
