    2023 CHRISTMAS APPEAL

WK8.4.jpgTo all those wonderful families who have shown the value of giving with their generosity.  It is truly wonderful the way everyone has contributed to the St Vincent de Paul Christmas hampers.  This is not only a vital service for our community, and an important way that children can be involved to see that Christmas is not just a time for receiving, but a time for giving and helping others too! It was a beautiful culmination to the work the teachers and students have been doing throughout the term in preparation for the occasion.  As usual there was a marvelous array of gifts for those in need in the Holy Spirit Parish and they were very gratefully received. If you forgot to send in your gold coin to help purchase the vouchers to go into the hampers, please send it in on Monday as it goes to a worthwhile cause. Many thanks for your support and generosity!

    SECOND SUNDAY IN ADVENT

    Year B | Sunday 10 December | purple

"Make straight the paths of the Lord."

    Something to Think About

How do you get ready for Christmas? What happens at school, at home and at church during Advent while we wait for Jesus’ birth?

    The Story

The gospel this week starts with words from the prophet Isaiah:

“In the desert, someone is shouting, ‘Get the road ready for the Lord! Make a straight path for him.”

Then it moves on to the story of John the Baptist.

John was the one shouting in the desert, telling people to turn back to God.

John baptised people with water in the Jordan River, but he also told the people that someone more powerful than him would come and baptise them with the Holy Spirit.

That ‘someone more powerful’, was Jesus.
