Religious Education News - Anne Leet

WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS
The Whole school focus theme for this year is ‘Walking Together’.
Our value for the next two weeks is: RESPECT
We can show this in the Mother Teresa School way by:
- Treating people the way we want to be treated.
- Playing by the rules and take turns.
- Telling the truth.
- Listening to other people’s ideas.
- Being considerate of other people’s feelings.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION / RECONCILIATION
Please keep these children and their families in your prayers as they prepare to celebrate their First Holy Communion. A special reminder to all those students, Jesus Day for Mother Teresa students is Friday 8 September. Parents, please check Compass and send in permission for students to attend. All the children are very excited and cannot wait to receive their First Holy Communion.
Please save the date:
St Teresa of Calcutta
School Feast Day Tuesday 5 September
Liturgy hosted By Year 6 Ink & Charcoal
This year we will be doing things a little differently to ensure the true spirit of St Teresa of Calcutta is celebrated in the humble way in which she would appreciate.
Students are asked to wear ‘odd socks’. Please do not to go out and purchase any new items but to be in solidarity with those who do not have much. The money saved can be donated to ‘Catholic Mission’ instead.
All students are to bring in please. Teachers will be collecting the money in their classroom.

“All who wish to follow me must deny themselves.”
Something to Think About
Jesus and Peter were close friends. Think about the people who are your close friends. Have you sometimes had a disagreement? What were some of the 'growing points' in your friendship. Maybe it was allowing your friend to help you. Maybe it was sharing an important experience with them. Maybe it was having to ask forgiveness for something.
The Story
Jesus tells his disciples that he is going to suffer, die and rise again. Peter (as usual) does not fully comprehend what Jesus is saying. How often does Peter miss the point! More than this, Peter protests strongly and dares to try to tell Jesus that this should not happen! Jesus' response to Peter comes out in very strong language indeed! He calls Peter an obstacle and a hindrance to the will of God. It would seem Peter might think he is the leader and Jesus is the disciple! Are there times when you try to tell Jesus what to do - or what you would like him to do for you?
