Principal's Report Term 3 Week 7
Dear Parents,
Last week I accompanied the Year Five students on their excursion to the Narrabeen Sport and Recreation Camp. On the Wednesday we had showers yet on Thursday and Friday we experienced heavy and at times torrential rain. The news reports said the monthly average fell over those two days.
Despite the conditions we participated in all activities on the Wednesday and Thursday however by Friday we had few dry clothes left and had activities in the hall. The rain was that heavy that we were bussed to the hall which was only a short walk away.
The students participated willingly in all activities despite the weather and the wind which made the water activities very cold. Thank you to the staff who went above and beyond looking after the students in their care.
While wet it was still an enjoyable experience and will not easily be forgotten by all who participated.
Tuesday evening saw our students involved in Wakakirri perform again and put on another wonderful performance. Again I congratulate all involved and I know the parents of those involved were amazed at the production and are very proud of their children.
Other events that groups of students have been involved in have been the Tournament of the Minds that occurred last weekend and saw one team chosen to proceed to the finals. These events are held on a Saturday and Sunday so require a big commitment from students and their families as well as staff. Thanks you to all who supported the teams last weekend and thank you to Miss Jeffries and Miss Wozniak for training the teams and accompanying them last weekend. Finally congratulations to all the students who gave up many hours honing their skills in preparation for the competition.
Last Friday Miss Ingram took a team of students to the finals of the ACT Chess Championships. With some of the top players at Year 5 camp it was an opportunity for our younger students to step up. Against tough competition they performed very well. Congratulations to all involved.
Wednesday saw our school choir participate in the ‘Big Sing’ where six schools and hundreds of children performed as individual schools and then as a massed choir. Mrs Curbishley reports it was a wonderful day and many parents turned up to see the children perform. Well done to all involved.
Several sporting events took place this week as well. A fuller report on these are included later in the newsletter by Mr Roweth.
As you can see the school provides many opportunities for students to follow areas of interest. This is one of the strengths of MTS. However this cannot happen without staff supported by parents who give up many hours to see children flourish and grow as they extend themselves and overcome their fears and at the same time develop new friendships.
Maths Problem
This week we go back to an easier problem.
At the bakery Frankie can buy 2 cupcakes for 50 cents. In her neighbourhood, she can sell 1 cupcake for 30c. How much profit will she make if she were to buy 13 cupcakes and sell all of them?
Congratulations to the two teams that competed in the OzTag finals ‘Battle of North v South’ on Monday! The 5-6 girls made the grand final and were beaten narrowly in a very tight match 6-4.
The 3-4 boys played their hearts out and ended up competing in the 3rd v 4th place off. The boys were narrowly beaten by one try in the final seconds of the game.
Thank you to Mrs Blackwell, Emily Patterson and Matt Power for coaching and all of the parents who came to support the teams on the day.
Congratulations to William Stewart who competed in the Act schools cup on Sunday 1st of September at Perisher. He came home with a gold medal in the Division 5 Snowboard Giant Slalom.
