Principal's Message Term 4 Week 3 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was wonderful to see lots of children riding to school this week. Today was a great morning for riding, thanks to the staff who led our riding buses to school. Lots of crazy socks were on display for our Socktober fundraising effort for the missions. I love the great selection of socks that are on offer these days.
Staff Leaving
- After 5 years working at Mother Teresa, Miss Samantha Beake has decided it is time to explore another school and share her many talents. Samantha has taken a 12-month transfer to St Vincent's Primary School, Aranda, for the 2026 school year.
Important - Expressions of Interest are now welcome for members to join the Mother Teresa School Community Council (SCC) Executive Committee
As you may be aware, following the successful establishment of the Mother Teresa School Community Council (SCC), almost 12 months ago, the council is now an active and valued part of the school community. The SCC continues to play an advisory role in supporting the Mother Teresa School community of parents, carers, students, and staff in building an open, inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative school community environment.
The School Community Council provides advice to the principal on important matters and supports the principal and school leadership team in their decision-making process.
As part of our ongoing commitment to community engagement, I am inviting parents/guardians/carers to express their interest in joining the School Community Council Executive Committee.
Expressions of Interest are sought for the following positions:
- Executive Committee Chair
- Executive Committee Treasurer
- Executive Committee Social & Fundraising
- Executive Committee Grounds and Sustainability
Ongoing members to the end of 2026
- Executive Committee Secretariat – Kris Palmer
- Executive Committee Uniform and Book Club – Kristy Mellor
- Community Awareness and Events – Tamara Chatfield and Carla Perman
If you are interested in contributing to the continued success of the SCC, please submit via email a brief expression of interest
- outlining your connection to the school,
- your involvement in the school community and your reason for wishing to join the School Community Council Executive Committee and
- possible role involvement.
Please email the expression of interest to carmel.maguire@cg.catholic.edu.au by Monday 3 November. (Date extended)
On Friday 7 November the students from Jackman House will celebrate winning the house challenge in Term 3. A notification has been sent out via COMPASS for parents or guardians to give permission for students to walk to Franklin Park for a play.
Reader's Cup
Many of our senior students have been preparing themselves for the "Readers Cup". Students were required to read 5 books in 5 weeks, building knowledge that will be essential next Friday at St Matthew's Primary, Page. We wish them all the best in representing MTS at this event.
Social Media Parent Survey
The Australian Government is delivering policies to delay children’s access to social media.
In light of this change, Catholic School Parents Australia (CSPA) is inviting parents and carers to share their experiences through a national survey.
By completing the survey, you are helping Catholic School Parents Australia (CSPA) understand the realities faced by families in Catholic school communities.
The insights gathered will inform advocacy efforts with Catholic Education authorities and Government, ensuring that parent perspectives are heard and valued.

Enjoy your week ahead.

SOCKTOBER - RAISING MONEY FOR CATHOLIC MISSION
This week, staff and students from the ELC and primary school participated in Socktober to help support the work of Catholic Mission Australia. We thank you for your generous donations and joyful participation. Together, our community has raised over $970, which will help provide food, education and care for children and families in need around the world. What a wonderful example of living our faith through action!
ALL SAINTS’ AND ALL SOULS’ DAY
This weekend, we celebrate two very special days in our Catholic faith - All Saints’ Day on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2. On All Saints’ Day, we honour all the saints, those known and unknown, who lived lives of faith, love and service to God. The following day, All Souls’ Day, invites us to remember and pray for all who have died, especially our loved ones and to trust in God’s promise of eternal life. Together, these feast days remind us that we are part of one great family of faith, the Communion of Saints, and that God’s love connects us.
Weekend Mass times
Saturday – 5:00pm.
Sunday – 8:00am, 9:30am and 5:00pm.
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can all do small things with great love.”

On Thursday, Ben Lambon joined forces with Soldier On and took on an epic triathlon style challenge to raise funds and awareness for Veterans mental health. He was to fly in a light aircraft from Canberra to Goulburn, ride his bicycle 100km from Goulburn to Mitchell and then Run the 10km from Mitchell to The Australian War Memorial. As part of his bike ride from Goulburn to Mitchell he passed Mother Teresa School. The children were at the fence to cheer him on with posters and streamers. Apparently our enthusiasm could be heard at the Well Station Road Park and Ride, where his support crew was waiting for him for the run leg.
"After a delayed start, my only goal was to get to MTS before 2:30, I knew the kids were waiting for me" he said.
At 1:30 as Ben was passing Sutton he was really starting to fatigue and struggle but then kept thinking, "I have to get to MTS to see the kids, they are waiting for me'. He dug deep, kept pushing, and found his second wind and arrived before we could blink.
At the Mitchell checkpoint, where Ben was catching his breath and changing his shoes for his run to the War Memorial, he told his support crew, "That was amazing, those kids made it all worth it .... their support was like rocket fuel."
So, a huge thank you from Ben and Soldier On for all your posters and support; it was amazing.
