Dear Parents and Carers,
Please note the following staff arrangements and changes occurring around the school
- Mrs Lauren Maher is Acting Religious Education Coordinator until the end of Week 5 as Mrs Anne Leet has taken leave. Mrs Deb Micaffel will be taking 1 Topaz for two days a week to allow Lauren to fulfill her leadership duties. Deb will be in 1 Topaz generally on a Wednesday and Thursday,
- Mrs. Neha John, one of our Classroom Support Teachers, has taken a full-time position at St Clare's College, working in their classroom support areas. This is a wonderful opportunity for Neha to share her talents and develop her skills; a loss to Mother Teresa.
- Mrs Carly Snowdon will continue in 2 Jade full-time for the next few weeks.
- Miss Kate Higgins is currently on leave until the end of Week 5.
- With Mrs leet taking leave, Mrs Michelle Young is continuing to support Mrs Fiona Matchett with teaching library sessions, to provide the teacher with their preparation time.

Religious Education News - Lauren Maher Acting REC

On August 6, we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration, when Jesus revealed His divine glory to Peter, James and John on Mount Tabor. This moment reminds us of the power of faith and the light of Christ in our lives. At school, we will commemorate this special feast day with class prayer, reflecting on how we can shine Christ’s light through our words and actions.
On August 8, we celebrate the feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first Saint. Mary MacKillop dedicated her life to helping others, especially through education and support for those in need. Her faith, courage and commitment to justice continue to inspire generations of Australians. To honour this feast day, our CSYMI students will visit classes from Preschool to Year 6 and lead class prayer, celebrating St Mary MacKillop’s legacy and reminding us all to “never see a need without doing something about it”.

Reminder: Precious Memories Mass
A reminder to all families that the Precious Memories masses will be held this weekend at Holy Spirit Church, Amaroo. Thank you for taking the time to create these special cards as a family. After the Prayer of the Faithful, the children will be invited to make their way to the front of the church with their Precious Memories cards. We continue to pray for those students preparing to receive their First Holy Communion.

Saturday 2 August – 5:00pm
Sunday 3 August – 8:00am, 9:30am and 5:00pm

The Sports Spectacle
This week has been as quiet as a library during a sleepover on the sports front! We were all set for the 3/4 Boys OzTag Gala Day, but Mother Nature decided to play referee and postponed it until August 20 due to weather and field conditions. A new compass permission has been sent out for those who signed up to play—don't forget to check it before your next snack!
Best of luck to Lachlan Rodda and Logan Blain as they gear up to represent the U12 Boys ACT School Sport AFL team in Maroochydore, QLD! We know you’ll bring home some pride and maybe even a trophy or two—just remember to pack your sportsmanship along with your sunscreen!
Congratulations to Grace Power for being selected in the U12 Girls ACT School Sport Touch Football team! She’ll be off to Ballarat early in Term 4, and we’re pretty sure she’ll run so fast that she might just break the sound barrier!
Lastly, a compass event has been sent out for the North Gungahlin Track and Field. Please respond promptly, or your child might miss out and end up running laps around the living room instead!
Upcoming Events
● Years 3/4 Boys Oztag Gala Days (20 August)
● North Gungahlin Track and Field (4 September)
This term, our school will be teaching Protective Behaviours to students using current resources from the Daniel Morcombe Curriculum and Education 2 Empower Publishing. We understand the content of Protective Behaviours can be confronting for some students, and we are therefore keen to ensure there is an opportunity for families to engage with the content before lessons are taught. To achieve this, an overview of the program is attached and weekly updates will be provided.

The MTS Yearbook request for photos
The Mother Teresa School Yearbook has been confirmed for 2025, but this year, we are going to need your help to get it across the line.
Families that have been with us for a few years would know that each year, with the help of our school committee and dedicated parents and our amazing teachers, we have produced a 200 page, professionally printed yearbook featuring all classes and highlighting the momentous occasions and experiences throughout the year.
The Yearbook has always been wonderfully received in the school community and are great keepsakes for the children to reflect on their journey here. To help in that undertaking we are hoping for your assistance
We would specifically like to request any photos from the events that have occurred in term 1 while they are fresh on your memories
-swimming carnival
-Reconciliation
-Harmony day
- Excursions
If families have any photos or if you’re attending school events (sporting, social etc) and you take any photos we’d love for you to snap and send a few back to us to use in the yearbook (appropriate permissions will be sought).
If you can help us with the above, please reach out and contact the Yearbook team via the yearbook email MTSYearbook00@gmail.com
Kind regards
Lindsay Hackett
The Community Council has once again booked a photographer to capture those special memories.
