Principal's Message Term 2 Week 1 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 2. It has been a big week filled with lots of activities and learning. Next Monday, we have engaged a photographer to take professional photos around the school for new marketing material. Only the children who have been given permission, via our February media release on the Compass Event notifications and the current enrolment forms, will be photographed. Children will be advised on Monday who cannot have their photos taken.

Special events that occurred over the last week
Our long-awaited sun sails have finally been replaced.
School gathering for ANZAC Day
Today, the MTS community gathered for a very moving ceremony involving staff, parents and members of the armed forces. It was a very special gathering prepared by Carly Flemmington, our DSM. Many thanks to all who made this so special, to remember the lives of the men and women who fought to protect our country in times of conflict and unrest.
Our Year 5 students had a wonderful three-day Camp. Thank you to the staff who provided this opportunity for the children - Mrs Blackwell, Mrs Hunter, Mrs O'Keefe, Mrs van der Sanden, Mrs Harris, Mr Hart and Mrs Anlezark. Everyone had a fabulous time, but looked very tired on their return.
Have a lovely weekend and do not forget to vote!

WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS
The Whole school focus theme for this JUBILEE 2025 year is ‘PILGRIMS OF HOPE’
This term ‘The Mother Teresa School Way’ is to be:
Companions on the Journey: Caring, Supporting, and Growing Together.
On our spiritual journey, we often face challenges such as fear, doubt, and anxiety. It's easy to feel alone or give up, but we are called to support each other. Like companions, we care for one another and inspire hope. Faith is strengthened through regular "resistance training"—prayer, service, and sacraments. Mother Teresa reminded us to always offer hope, especially when the road gets tough. By caring for others, we also grow in our own faith and resilience.
Scripture Reference: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11 As companions on the journey, we are called to care for and support one another, building each other up in faith. This strengthens us collectively and individually, allowing us to grow through service and love.
“Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.”
Something to Think About
Have you ever been fishing? Do you think it would be easy or hard to catch fish?
The disciples were great fishermen, but in this story they go fishing all night and catch nothing. Then a stranger appears on the shore. It’s Jesus but they don’t know it yet. He asks them to let their nets down again. They catch so many fish that they can hardly fit them in the boat. The disciples are so surprised! Then they realise that the man is Jesus and they come ashore to sit around a warm fire and eat bread and fish.
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 Students who are Catholic and are Preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation
Next week you will be required to fill out an online form with key details about who your child's Confirmation Sponsor will be. Please familiarise yourself with the booklet to ensure you are following the correct protocols.

All our Confirmation candidates are truly embracing their ministries and getting involved in the Parish Masses.

With Winter sports hopping into action across the ACT, our School Sport trials are popping up faster than you can say “Jack Robinson.” Keep your eyes glued to the School Sport Facebook page—it's going to be a wild ride!
Mark your calendars for next Wednesday when we unleash our annual Cross Country from 9-11 am. A huge shoutout to all the parents who are volunteering to support and supervise out on the course. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated. Remember to bring your best cheering voices!
And speaking of exciting events, we have 8 brave students diving into the ACT Swimming Championships at the AIS on Tuesday, May 6. Let’s wish them all the best—may they swim faster than a fish on roller skates!

The MTS Yearbook request for photos
The Mother Teresa School Yearbook has been confirmed for 2025, but this year, we are going to need your help to get it across the line.
Families that have been with us for a few years would know that each year, with the help of our school committee and dedicated parents and our amazing teachers, we have produced a 200 page, professionally printed yearbook featuring all classes and highlighting the momentous occasions and experiences throughout the year.
The Yearbook has always been wonderfully received in the school community and are great keepsakes for the children to reflect on their journey here. To help in that undertaking we are hoping for your assistance
We would specifically like to request any photos from the events that have occurred in term 1 while they are fresh on your memories
-swimming carnival
-Reconciliation
-Harmony day
- Excursions
If families have any photos or if you’re attending school events (sporting, social etc) and you take any photos we’d love for you to snap and send a few back to us to use in the yearbook (appropriate permissions will be sought).
If you can help us with the above, please reach out and contact the Yearbook team via the yearbook email MTSYearbook00@gmail.com
Kind regards
Lindsay Hackett
