Principal's Message Term 2 Week 1 2024
Welcome back to all members of our Mother Teresa Community for Term 2 2024. Like all other times in the school year, we have lots to look forward to this term. Our first big event took place on Thursday, where as a community we commemorated ANZAC Day with an assembly, remembering those who lost their lives fighting for our country, while giving thanks for those who continue to serve today. This term we also have many of our senior students making their confirmation as well as a multitude of sporting events.
Ms Maguire has returned home and is recovering well. She wanted us to share her gratitude to the MTS community for their prayers and best wishes and is missing everyone immensely. We will continue to pray for her and look forward to seeing her back at Mother Teresa sometime soon.
Mothers' Day
For the first time since COVID we are celebrating Mothers' Day at our school on Friday 10 May from 7:45am to 8:45am. During this time mothers and grandmothers are invited to enjoy a muffin and visit the children's classrooms. It is days like these that help build community and we thank our energetic and active members of the community council for organising.

WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS
The Whole school focus theme for this year is ‘COME HOLY SPIRIT’
This term at Mother Teresa School we will use the theme that: We are called to Dream
“Don't be afraid to dream big because we have a big God who can do all things. It is only through God's power that we can accomplish all the dreams he has put in our hearts.” Matthew 19:26
We will share our gifts and talents with each other throughout the year. The values we will be focusing on this term are Calm, Truth, Justice, Forgiveness & Love
Confirmation 2024
Please pray for our Year 6 Confirmation Candidates, their teachers, and families as they prepare this important sacrament.

All our Confirmation candidates are truly embracing their ministries and getting involved in the Parish Masses. Well done! Don’t forget to bring your item of food for the ‘Food Pantry’.
Something to Think About
How do you show someone that you love them? Sometimes it isn’t easy! Your parents show you they love you by taking care of you even when they are tired. You might show your love for a friend by sharing your lunch, even when you are hungry.
The Story
There is a clear message in today’s gospel story – Jesus asks us to love one another just as God loves us! Jesus loved us so much that he died on the cross for us. Jesus tells us that when we love others, we will be completely happy.

Anne Leet REC
On Thursday our school community gathered to commemorate ANZAC Day in our school hall.
This solemn occasion was an opportunity to reflect on the life and service of many Australian Service men and women – who have served and fought to protect our Freedom.
Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice – and like Jesus, have not been forgotten and remain with us each day.
As we listened to the acknowledgement of Country, to prayers, guest speakers and the Ode- as well as the Australian National Anthem, we were reminded of how lucky we are to live in this beautiful place - Australia.
This freedom has come at a cost, let us remember the ANZACs courage, may we be inspired by their bravery and strive to be courageous in all that we do - Lest We Forget.
Thank you to parents and service personnel who attended this day and then joined us for refreshments.
Australian War Memorial display
In the last 2 weeks of term 1, we had an interactive display on loan from the Australian War Memorial. Real and replica uniforms, equipment and artifacts from the First World War were all on display for the students to explore. Students listened to stories, had a go at writing a postcard home and were able to try on uniforms from our past and present Servicemen and Women. We learnt about our ANZACs as well as the contribution of Australian sailors, airmen, nurses, and those at home during a defining period in our nation's history.
Please see Mrs Slaven or come to Culture Club on a Friday for more information and time to complete your artwork.
Class Contact Parent – We need you!
With the start of a new term we are keen to bring together the Class Contacts for 2024.
The aim of the Class Contact initiative is to continue the tradition of building strong community partnerships at Mother Teresa. The Class Contact Parent is a fun and rewarding liaison role between class teachers and families. We invite you to consider this opportunity to get to know your child’s class and teacher and become a vital part of fostering and building a supportive community at Mother Teresa School.
Thank you to a number of parents who have already offered to be the contact for their child’s class. We continue to have a number of vacancies and would love to hear from you if your child is in:

Last term, one of our exceptional Year 6 students, Georgia R travelled to Thailand to compete in the ATOD International Dance competition. Georgia was invited to return on a scholarship after she was crowned Top Overall Dancer in the public section last year. Georgia again competed at a high level achieving some phenomenal results. She placed first overall in 8 dances, second overall in 4 dances and third overall in 5 dances. She also achieved gold medals in 5 syllabus areas. This is an outstanding achievement in an international competition.
Georgia also spent some time in the UK last month, assisting a worldwide dance organisation as their tour assistant. These are some incredible experiences for a year 6 student to experience.
Congratulations Georgia!
Loose Parts Play - donations required
We love our Loose Parts Play area here at Mother Teresa and we have been very lucky over the last few years to have received donations of goods from families. These donations and the generosity of The Green Shed has meant a well stocked play space. Unfortunately, like with all things, over time the bits and pieces need replacing. With the upcoming closure of the Green Shed we no longer have this supply source so we would like to once again call on our community to help us out with donations. We are interested in the following types of items: milk crates, smooth timber in many forms, pieces of PVC piping, ropes, tarps and potentially many other wondrous items! Of course the items need to be clean and in a safe condition for the children to play with. The photos below present a few ideas.
If you have something that you think would be a great item for the area please email Mrs Blackwell: catherine.blackwell@cg.catholic.edu.au and include a photo of the item so that we can determine if it is suitable, before you bring it into school.
