Principal's Message Term 4 Week 3 - 2022
Dear Parents
Class Groups for 2023
Much care and deliberation occurs when forming our class groups. Teachers are highly professional and have the main responsibility for placing their current students in the most appropriate class for next year. Over the next two weeks, the teachers will be observing friendships to assist with class groupings. Children will be asked to identify four learning friends. Every endeavour is made to ensure a child has at least one learning friend in their class. Please chat with your child so they know who they may like to nominate.
When forming class groups we aim for an equal spread of both positive and challenging characteristics. Every care will be taken to ensure that your child is placed in the best situation to enhance learning and social development.
Confidential concerns should be brought to my attention in writing, by Friday 4 November, even if you have raised concerns in previous years. Please email directly to carmel.maguire@cg.catholic.edu.au. General concerns should be raised with your child's teacher. As Principal, I will make the final decision on all class placements. Late requests are very difficult to consider once groups are finalised.
Our Year 6 leaders are attending camp at Stanwell Tops, Wollongong next week. The students will be participating in a range of outdoor educational activities including archery, rock climbing and a giant swing. We look forward to seeing many images from this exciting camp experience.
Year 6 End of Year Events
During the week a number of messages have been sent out to the Year 6 parents regarding events coming up for Year 6 Students. Please check Compass for all information and dates.
We have set aside Wednesday 16 and 23 November, between 3.30pm and 4.30 pm, for our 2023 kinder children to visit for two short orientation sessions. Information has been emailed to families. Any family who has not received the induction infomation should contact the school office.

The Catholic Education Commission in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn has recommended a tuition fee increase for 2023.
Sibling discounts - CE Tuition Fees
As per the CE communication last year, CE will continue to reduce sibling discounts over the next two years to lessen the level of future tuition fee increases for all parents. The agreed schedule is as follows:
|

2022 |
2023 |
2024 |
1st Child |

The discount levels in 2023 remain more favourable when compared against other Catholic Dioceses in Australia. The reduction in sibling discounts is being phased to lessen the year-on-year impact for parents with two, three or four children.
As always, if fees create financial concern for you, I would encourage you to make an appointment with me to discuss how we can help. It is a policy in the Archdiocese that no student should be refused enrolment, excluded or disadvantaged because their family is unable to afford fees. Any discussion on fees would be strictly confidential.
If you have any questions regarding school fees for 2023, please feel free to contact me. Please note I am still finalising our local levies with a full schedule to be released once approved by Community Council in the coming weeks.
God bless.
Carmel Maguire
ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety Information Evening
It was wonderful to see many of you attend the ThinkUKnow digital safety presentation on Wednesday evening.
Please follow the link to the booklet containing information from the presentation.
Unfortunately we have been unable to book the ThinkUKnow AFP digital safety sessions for students this year. We hope to organise them for early 2023.
We appreciate any feedback about the session. Please email sarah.macarthur@cg.catholic.edu.au.
School Student Support Referrals and Counselling
School Student Support Referrals and Counselling
To direct our families to access the best support available through Mother Terese School, we are setting up the following process to assist with referrals and the most appropriate use of our resources.
- Enquiry (teacher or parent) – Request a referral form from the office
- The principal will talk with you and guide you to appropriate support
Support types:
-
-
-
- Diverse Learning Teacher and team,
- Student welfare officer (individual or small group guidance and/or mentoring support),
- Defence School Mentor,
- School counselling (individual or small group)
- External agencies
-
-
If school counselling is recommended the School Counsellor will contact the parents and go through the online CatholicCare referral process if school counselling is suitable. Once the online referral has been submitted and consent is signed, the School Counsellor can begin working with the student.
To make it easier for payments to be made at Mother Teresa School, we have introduced the use of Qkr! by Mastercard, a secure and easy way to order and pay for school items from your phone at a time and place that suits you.
Please refer to the attached document for instructions on how to download the app to your phone. I have also included several screenshots from my phone so you will know what it looks like once registered.
This will become our preferred option for many school payments in the future. Additional payment options will be added as required eg, sporting events.
