Principal's Message Term 2 Week 10 - 2022
- Lee Revell, our Defence School Mentor. Lee has supported the children of our Defence families over the last two years. This is a vital role within our school as we support over 100 children and their families as they transition between various postings around Australia and internationally. We wish Lee all the very best in her new endeavour.
- Emmie Hoffsink, our student administration officer, has resigned from her position to have time with family and settle into a new home over the border. I thank Emmie for the care she has shown the children, who required first aid on a Monday or Tuesday.
- Kate Higgins is finishing today to access maternity leave and welcome the arrival of baby number two. We wish Kate all the very best and look forward to her exciting news.
Its a boy! Claire Dekuyer welcomed Raffaelle into the world on 18th June. Both Mum and bub are doing really well.
This week we employed a replacement for Clare Dekuyer in 3 Sapphire for Semester Two. Therese Cronin will be joining the staff once her registration with ACT Teacher's Quality Institute has been approved. Thank you to Atina Hrstic for her coordination of the program over the last few weeks.
Commencing next term, Liana White will be teaching four days a week in Kinder Rose with Atina Hrstic teaching each Friday.
With Kate finishing today, we welcome back Kari Turnbull from maternity leave. Kari will be sharing 2 Lime with Sophia Caputo, our new graduate, who has been working with the Year 2 team this semester. Kari will be in class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with Sophia teaching on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Mini Vinnies Pyjama Day
Thank you to everyone who generously donated to our Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal today. We raised $927.70 plus received a large donation of warm socks, beanies and gloves. It was the perfect day to be able to wear our warm and cosy pyjamas to school!
On Thursday 21 July the Year 1 children will be attending the production of the Twits at the Canberra Theatre. For this excursion, we are trialling the acceptance for this excursion via online permission note via Compass. Please see your emails for all the information regarding this event. All updates for the excursion will be on Compass via the "Events" tab.
Additional Pupil Free Days Term 3 - All ACT Schools
Please find attached a letter from the Director of Catholic Education, Ross Fox, about two planning days in Term 3. The letter gives the timing of these planning days.
The planning days are pupil free. However, arrangements will be made for the supervision of those students who need to attend school. I will provide you with further details well in advance of the days.
I greatly appreciate your understanding of the need for this response in this challenging context.
Events - Off campus Events Notices & Updates (Compass)
As many of you would be aware, we are now utilising the "events" function in Compass which allows us to specify which students are attending particular events off site. Please note, once you have completed any necessary permissions/registrations etc with regards to events, that all updates and information regarding the event will be sent via Compass email. No information will be sent to the full school community with other daily Compass alerts. You will need to check your emails (including junk mail) if you are looking for the latest information on an upcoming event or alternatively go into the Event tab on your parent portal and all information will be there.
School Fees
A reminder that school fees are now overdue. Please settle your semester one accounts as soon as possible. If you are experiencing difficulties please contact me on my email carmel.maguire@cg.catholic.edu.au.
Tissues & Wipes need re-stocking
We are running low on tissues and antibacterial wipes in our classrooms. If all students could please supply one packet of each to their classroom teacher it would be greatly appreciated.
COVID Reminders
Families still need to advise the school should a child be at home with COVID via our specific email address, covid.motherteresa@cg.catholic.edu.au then followed up with a Compass absentee notification through the Compass Parent Portal.
RAT kits are still available from the office should you require kits for regular testing, particularly if your child is a close contact.
God Bless

Preparing to Hear God’s Word
Do you know what the word “peace” means? What does it look like? What does it feel like?
What do “peaceful” people do?
The Story
In today’s gospel, Jesus sends out his friends to go and find more disciples. There was lots of work to do, but not many people to do it! Jesus gives them some instructions about what they should take, and what they should say to the people they meet on the way.
The Scriptures
A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke 10:1-9
The Lord chose seventy-two other followers and sent them out two by two to every town and village where he was about to go.
He said to them:
"A large crop is in the fields, but there are only a few workers. Ask the Lord in charge of the harvest to send out workers to bring it in. Now go, but remember, I am sending you like lambs into a pack of wolves. Don't take along a moneybag or a travelling bag or sandals. And don't waste time greeting people on the road.
As soon as you enter a home, say, 'God bless this home with peace.' If the people living there are peace-loving, your prayer for peace will bless them. But if they are not peace-loving, your prayer will return to you.
Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever they give you, because workers are worth what they earn. Don't move around from house to house. If the people of a town welcome you, eat whatever they offer you. Heal their sick and say, 'God's kingdom will soon be here!'
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Something to Think About
Jesus told his disciples to bless people’s houses with peace when they entered. How can we be peacemakers?
Talk about some practical ways in which you can bring peace to your families and friends.
Peace and Best Wishes.
