Principal's Message Term 2 Week 6 - 2022
This year's theme is “Be Brave. Make Change.” and is a challenge to all Australians to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
Prayer for Reconciliation
God of all creation,
as we journey together in this Great Southern Land,
we pray for healing, forgiveness and unity,
creating a path of goodwill, with justice and compassion.
Jesus, through the power of your love, you have given us the courage, wisdom and strength to share our gifts and talents in humility.
In peace and understanding, we reconcile with each other.
Creator Spirit, we come together in prayer and thanksgiving for the many blessings we have received. Allow your Spirit to wash over us and give us strength to walk together as one.
Staff Farewell
We wish Louise Thomas from Kindergarten all the best as she farewells us today. We await in anticipation of the arrival of baby Thomas in the coming weeks. Liana White will be taking the class full time for the remainder of the term.
Afternoon Pickup through the ELC drop off zone
After school, all parents collecting kindergarten to year 6 child/ren need to pick up from the carpark located on the basketball courts. Please DO NOT use the ELC pick up/drop off zone located at the front of the school. This is a dedicated area for the ELC students only.
End of May - Hats Off Day
In Canberra sun protection is required for part or most of each day between August and May. The end of May is ‘Hats Off Day’ whilst the beginning of August is ‘Hats On Again’ for all of us. As such, the children will no longer be required to wear their hats. With the arrival of cold mornings, the sun hat has been quickly replaced with a sea of navy beanies to keep ears warm.
Tell Them From Me Surveys
Parents, Teachers and Students in Years 4 - 6 are invited to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process. Today, I sent out an alert via Compass, inviting you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey.
We value the role of parents and carers within our school community, and we would appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership, to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Mother Teresa School. The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device through URL link that was sent out via Compass.
Sabbath Week
Our next Pupil Free day is Friday 24 June. Kidsbiz will be running on that day. Please contact them if you need to book in.
Annual Improvement Plan
Each year schools prepare an Annual Improvement Plan to direct their focus to improving various aspects of the school including students learning and growth. This year Mother Teresa School has three key goals

- Daily Review in Literacy and Numeracy developed by a Catalyst coach employed by CE
- Achieve growth in all aspects of Learning
- Development of Professional Learning Team Action plans with a focus on English, Maths, Religious Education and General Capabilities
- Equitable outcomes for all students
- Critical and Creative thinking
- Effective feedback to improve learning
Refer to the attached document for specific details on how the goals will be actioned throughout the year.
COVID Reminders
Families still need to advise the school should a child be at home with COVID via our specific email address, covid.motherteresa@cg.catholic.edu.au then followed up with a Compass absentee notification through the Compass Parent Portal.
RAT kits are still available from the office should you require kits for regular testing, particularly if your child is a close contact.
God Bless

Pentecost sunday
Year C Sunday 5th June
"As the Father sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit."
Preparing to Hear God’s Word
Jesus changed the world!
We can change the world too if we follow Jesus.
Pentecost reminds us to be people of energy, enthusiasm, and imagination!
The Story
On the day of Pentecost the disciples were all together in one place. All of a sudden, Jesus appeared in the room with them. He gave them the gift of the Holy Spirit and sent them into the world to continue his work of healing and forgiving people.
The Scriptures
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 20:19-23
As the Father sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit.
The disciples were afraid of the Jewish leaders,
and on the evening of that same Sunday
they locked themselves in a room.
Suddenly, Jesus appeared in the middle of the group.
He greeted them and showed them his hands and his side.
When the disciples saw the Lord,
they became very happy.
After Jesus had greeted them again, he said,
"I am sending you, just as the Father has sent me."
Then he breathed on them and said,
"Receive the Holy Spirit.
If you forgive anyone's sins,
they will be forgiven.
But if you don't forgive their sins,
they will not be forgiven."
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Something to Think About
People who are filled with a joyful energy attract others. As disciples of Jesus we are called to inspire and motivate people so that together we can achieve great things. What fills you with energy? What marvellous things would you like to achieve in your life?
Peace and Best Wishes.

2022 Annual Survey - Student involvement
As part of our focus on school effectiveness, Mother Teresa School will be participating in an online survey for students in Years 4 - 6 From Me ® (TTFM ® ’ s school Tell Them ). The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve.
Next week (Week 7) the students will be given the opportunity and time to participate in this survey during regular school hours. Students who agree to complete the survey will be given a random username and password to access and complete the survey online. Students’ names cannot be linked to their responses which allows it to be completely anonymous. Results will show all student scores combined together - it is not possible to single out individual students in the results.
The survey takes approximately 15 - 20 minutes to complete. The survey measures include such topics as emotional and social well-being, physical health, and behaviours and attitudes linked to student success. The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and feedback in open-ended question responses.
Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish to. If during the survey, your child is uncomfortable answering any question, he/she should leave it blank and move on to the next one. Your child can stop the survey at any time.
If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please contact me via email carmel.maguire@cg.catholic.edu.au by Tuesday 6 June.
Please see the list of State Teams that are currently open for selection trial registrations open to interested students.
Points to note;
- Please promote the SSACT Scholarship Fund ($500) open to all travelling teams, information and application form within Resources on the website.
- ACT School Sport currently have 29 teams open – please check in with your School Approver regularly to ensure your students can move through the selection process. The School Approver email notification of a student registering is our school administration email.

MTS Community Council - Social Club Upcoming Events & More!
MTS Social Committee – upcoming events and more!!
It’s been a tough time for the Social Committee trying to arrange events in and around COVID so we’re excited to announce some MTS Social Events for 2022!!
Kicking off this term with our 80’s Zumba Party on 17 June (see the details below) and a Trivia Night in Term 3.
80’s Zumba Party – In the School Hall on 17th June 2022 7-9pm
Bookings: $10 https://www.trybooking.com/CABKC
With a few of our members leaving last year we would love to welcome some new members. If the Social Committee sounds like your sort of gig don’t be shy, get in touch. You can learn more about what we do and just sign on for the Trivia Night if you’d like a taster. Contact us at: MTScommunitycouncil@mail.com or through one of the Facebook pages.
Speaking of Facebook, we’re also pleased to launch our “MTS Community” Facebook page. If you’re interested in keeping up to date with all the social events & fundraisers happening at the school join up! One of our aims is to promote a strong friendly community at MTS. Having our own page means we will transition away from putting up too much information about Social Events and fundraisers on the individual Year level pages. What’s that? You didn't know about the Year level Facebook pages? They are a great way to communicate/connect with other families at MTS – perfect for finding that lost jumper, trying to recall if it’s dress up/party day, organising year level catchups etc. Check out the links below to find us and don’t forget about the school run Facebook page as well.
Facebook pages (run through Mother Teresa School Community Council (MTSCC)):
Note: The individual year level pages are renewed at the end of each year and you need to rejoin the new group.
